Skin Tags
What Are Skin Tags?
Skin tags are small, soft, benign growths that often appear on areas of the body where the skin rubs against itself or clothing, such as the neck, armpits, eyelids, or under the breasts. They are typically flesh-coloured or slightly darker and can vary in size from a few millimetres to a few centimetres. While skin tags are harmless and non-cancerous, they can sometimes become irritated or bothersome due to friction or their location. At Revive Health, we offer safe skin tag removal treatments performed by qualified clinicians.
How Are Skin Tags Removed?
Skin tags are commonly removed using a procedure called cautery excision. This method involves using a specialised medical device to heat and precisely remove the skin tag while simultaneously sealing the surrounding tissue to minimise bleeding. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and performed under local anaesthesia to ensure comfort. Cautery excision is effective in removing skin tags, particularly those in sensitive or hard-to-reach areas, which may result in minimal scarring and promote healing.
Seborrheic Keratosis & Warts
What Are Seborrheic Keratoses?
Seborrheic keratoses, also known as basal cell papillomas, are common, non-cancerous skin growths that typically appear as brown, black, or tan lesions on the skin. They often have a waxy, wart-like, or slightly raised appearance and can vary in size. These growths are most commonly found on the face, chest, shoulders, or back and tend to develop with age. While seborrheic keratoses are harmless, they can become irritated, itchy, or cosmetically concerning. At Revive Health, we offer safe treatments for the removal of seborrheic keratoses and other warts.
How Are Seborrheic Keratoses and Warts Removed?
Seborrheic keratoses, other warts and benign skin lesions are typically removed using a procedure called curettage. During this treatment, a healthcare professional gently scrapes away the lesion from the skin’s surface using a specialized instrument called a curette. This procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and performed under local anaesthesia to ensure comfort. Curettage is an effective method for removing seborrheic keratoses, especially when they are raised or causing irritation.
What are the risks of removing Skin Tags, Seborrheic Keratoses and Warts?
While the removal of skin tags and seborrheic keratoses / warts is generally considered safe and routine, like any medical procedure, it carries some potential risks. These risks are minimal when performed by experienced healthcare professionals but may include:
- Infection: There is a slight risk of infection at the treatment site, especially if aftercare instructions are not properly followed.
- Bleeding: Minor bleeding may occur during or immediately after the procedure, particularly in larger lesions or those in highly vascular areas.
- Scarring: While uncommon, some individuals may develop slight scarring at the removal site, depending on their skin type and healing process.
- Pigmentation Changes: The treated area may become slightly lighter or darker than the surrounding skin, though this usually fades over time.
- Recurrence: In rare cases, skin tags or seborrheic keratoses can reappear in the same area over time.
- Skin Irritation: Temporary redness, swelling, or tenderness around the treated area is normal but usually resolves quickly.
At Revive Health, we prioritise patient safety by using sterile techniques and offering clear aftercare guidance to minimise these risks. Our experienced Doctors ensure that each procedure is performed with precision and care, supporting a smooth recovery and positive outcomes.
How do you start your skin surgery journey at Revive Health?
Step 1
Schedule a consultation at our clinic for a comprehensive assessment and examination of your skin lesion. During this appointment, we’ll discuss your reasons for seeking removal, outline the procedure in detail, explain any potential risks, and set realistic expectations for the outcome. The Doctor will also provide clear information about the cost of the procedure, providing you with the details needed to make an informed decision.
This consultation will cost £75 and can be a video appointment if this is more convenient for you.
If you are not sure if your skin lesion is a skin tag or wart, or it is >1cm, then you can email us with some information and a photo of the lesion to check before booking your initial appointment.
Step 2
If you choose to proceed with the skin surgery, we’ll arrange a date for the procedure at a time that’s convenient for you.
On the day of your procedure, you can eat and drink as usual. Before we begin, we will review the planned procedure with you in detail and ask you to sign a consent form to confirm your agreement to proceed.
The procedure will be carried out under a local anaesthetic, which may cause a brief stinging sensation during the injection. Once the area is numbed, we will perform the surgery.
After the procedure, you will be provided with an aftercare leaflet containing all the necessary information to support a smooth recovery.
